International and domestic flights land at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. If you have applied to the Niagara Student Onboarding services, your host family will greet you at the airport. Otherwise, taxis and buses are available to bring you to Niagara. You are responsible for making those arrangements.
It is important to have with you about $500.00 CAD in cash when you arrive for transportation, hotel stay, and food. Prices in Canada do not include taxes – 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will be added on to all prices listed. For more information on Canadian taxes, please visit the Canada Revenue Agency.
Plan to arrive early
If you’re not already in Canada, it is important for you to arrive at least a few days before class. You will need time to adjust to the different climate and time zone, and familiarize yourself with Niagara.
Once you arrive:
- Check-in at Niagara English Language Academy (NELA) either in person or by phone
- Obtain your student card (PawPass)
- Open a bank account
Driving in Canada
If you are planning to drive while you’re in Canada, we suggest you obtain an international driver’s license in your country before your arrival. It will be valid for 90 days. After that, you will have to apply for an Ontario driver’s license.
